I don't know a thing about diamond files and how they are SUPPOSED to work and what you are SUPPOSED to do with them. I am not quite, but fairly close, to being mechanically illiterate. But I had purchased a really nice crystal decanter and I chipped the lip of it one day when I was putting the little plunger shaped top back into the bottle. Well, what a fix. The decanter was new, pretty, and a bit expensive, so I thought of filing it. I tried a large emery board and that did take a nick or two out and seemed the way to go. So, I thought of files and bought this inexpensive set from Amazon. I JUST wanted to get the decanter back in usable shape. The files came de pronto and I immediately went to work on my crystal decanter. I looked for the least abrasive file to start with, but they were all 180 grit, so I looked for the one that seemed best suited for the lip of the decanter ad chose the one which is fourth in the row if you are counting from left to right. True, they were only $6 - and that included free shipping - but I have to say I'm sure glad I didn't pay even a dollar more. Frankly, even at the low price, I am not sure they are worth the money. First off, the little red rubber handles are a joke. One of the handles on my file was broken when it arrived and the rest were so lame that I just pulled them right off and threw them away. The metal the files are made from appears to be pot metal. It has a cheap silver color to it. I don't know if it's some sort of cheap plating or what, but I'm almost embarrassed to put these into my tool chest. No wait, I take that back, I am embarrassed to put these in my tool chest. There do appear to be some diamond service, but I question how long it will say attached to the files. I haven't used any of the files yet, but based on their apparent quality, I'm a little concerned they might snap and/or the diamond surface area might...
